Front Pages of the world

What is your favorite newspaper front page? Why?
My favorite newspaper front page is the Albuquerque journal because the first photo you see really grabs your attention and makes you want to read more about what is going on in the area.

What is your favorite headline from that newspaper? Why are you interested in it?
"Tattoo parlor trip leaves mom with crime record" is a very interesting title because the words being combined in the headline isn't something you hear all the time.

How many stories are on the front page of your favorite?
Four stories are on the front page of my favorite newspaper

What do you notice that all newspaper front pages have in common? Look at design, size of photos, size of story text, etc.
All of the photos in the newspapers have a big oversized photo in the center with a big headline followed by a story formed into columns and maybe a few extra stories on the bottom and left side.

What are things that vary (or are different) on the front pages of different newspapers? Look at design, size of photos, size of headlines, etc.

Some headlines are bigger than others and some pictures are smaller than others, also the front page in some newspapers contain legends or keys that reference different stories throughout the newspaper

Magazine Covers Part 2

Early Magazine Covers
Publication date: December 14, 1918
In the mid-1700s the magazines didn't really have covers they were more like a table of contents with a title. They were usually created to look like books they had no describing words on what was going to be inside the magazine.

Poster Covers
Publication Date; August 11, 1969
One of the most memorable type of cover in the magazine field mostly from the 1890s to the 1960s. The style of poster covers look as though they cover could be framed and hung on a wall, like a poster. poster covers usually are focused on one thing and are enhanced to appear more noticeable. Smaller word fonts are used because they are confident that their magazines can catch the attention faster than other magazines that are made to catch a readers eye.

Pictures married to type
Publication Date: November 5, 2012
Throughout the 20th century cover art has come to the point where it's maybe even bigger than Poster Covers. A large title, An enlarged model, and words all over the place are the first thing you see when looking at Pictures Married to Type of magazine cover. This style combines activity, confidence, and some recreation. The placement of the picture usually gives a sense of depth. Basically there is a lot of overlapping features to this style. Bright colors, big fonts and eye catching designs are what you will see on these magazines.

In The Forest of Words
Publication date: November 2010
Some covers nowadays have bigger cover lines than the actual name of the magazine and when it can be arguable that it doesn't do the magazine justice it also brings a new style to the table. Started with Mademoiselle Magazine in 1937. Even though its series ended in 2001 it came to peoples attention that, combined with a great photo, a large number of vivid cover lines make a great magazine cover. Poster covers have few or smaller cover lines, Forest of words uses words to capture people attention.

My Favorite Cover

Singer Pink is back in fighting shape after shedding 55 pounds of baby weight 15 months after giving birth to her daughter Willow.

In this portrait of Pink, She shows off her body after losing 55 pounds of baby weight, by picking up her already see shirt and showing her belly. I do think the lighting in this portrait is great because she looks very nice and even though it seems formal she does look very conformable and naturally posed. Those who know Pink know that since she was teen has struggled with her weight and was constantly bullied because of it. That brings out the emotional connection to this magazine. Representing herself now as a mom and superstar that not only sounds great but looks great really brings out the meaning of this whole magazine. It would have been better to have some of her backstory on the cover I think that would make the person looking at this magazine see why it is such a big deal she is on here and showing her body off to the world.

Magazine Tips

  • Arousing curiosity (that’s to pull the casual glancer in)
  • If the cover pops out from its background, don’t weaken it by fussing with it.
  • If it is invisible like wallpaper, decide what element is worthy of becoming dominant.
  • Efficient, fast, easy to scan (that’s showing off the service)
  • Intellectually stimulating, interesting (that’s to promise benefits)

Future

Next year I don't think i will be taking any classes dealing with journalism or yearbook because I'm in ABLE and it doesn't really have anything to do with my major but i really do hate the fact that i asked for it freshman year and i didn't get it until this year. If i were to have started since freshman year maybe i would continue into yearbook because i think thats interesting but next year i think I'm gonna take different classes. Im thinking of taking accounting for my major and cord, AVID has also been a tremendous help to me i think I'm going to continue to be involved in this program because it is helpful. Then of course my core classes, being a senior i do want to take precautions in not giving myself so much work that i won't be able to accomplish so i want to play it safe and try my best to be as diverse and successful as possible my last year of high school.

2012 in Review

1. Best song of 2012?
I already loved Taylor Swift but now i love her even more because she's being diverse and is showing a different side of her through her music. She's usually into balled/country songs but this time a catchy new album thats topped the charts already is the best thing she could have done to get peoples attention. Love this song.

2.Best movie 2012?
At first when i heard about The Hunger Games trilogy i wasn't to captured by it but when i started reading the books i was instantly hooked. I read all of them and i prayed that the movie would let me down and it didn't! I loved the movie because even if you didn't the book you would still understand the main ideas and characteristics of the characters. Loved it Can't wait for Catching Fire this year.

3. Most important story of 2012?
Even though its sad and very hard for me to talk about i think the most important story of 2012 was the Sandy Hook Shooting because people need to know that these things happen and everyone should be ready to prevent these types of things. This story this Tragedy i believe is a reminder to everyone that if we are all impacted by something like this in a similar way then we must all be connected in some way and we should all have the power to do something about it.

4. Most important person of 2012?
If it were any other year i think it would have been different but for this year i think it was obama because he was reelected for president this year and hopefully for a good reason and with him we can repair damage done and make the U.S even better.

5. Most important Entertainment Story of 2012?

Favorite photos of 2012

I Really like this picture because at first you just see the big picture but once you look a little closer you see all the people forming the big picture and i just think its an amazing picture.

The Sandy Hook shooting is already an unthinkable story but to actually capture others reactions and moments that took place the horrible day kind of gives me the chills because it makes it more real and for me personally makes me sad but something that should be remembered and this photo is the perfect photo to show others reactions.
I  absolutely love this photo because of the way it was taken. It seems as though the soldier is walking out onto the earth and the depth and point of view mixed in with the soldier just nonchalant about walking out of the airplane makes it an even better photo.
